Maxillofacial and Dental Surgery

Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery Department is a branch of the Faculty of Dentistry clinical sciences. In this section, it is a medical field that performs the medical and surgical treatment of congenital and acquired diseases of soft and hard tissues in the mouth, jaw and face regions, and aesthetic, functional and phonetic problems caused by infectious, traumatic and all kinds of pathological causes.

What treatments does oral, dental and maxillofacial surgery perform?

Normal and surgical extractions of teeth,

Impacted tooth extractions,

Dental implants and zygomatic implant applications,

Diagnosis and treatment of jaw cysts and tumors,

Pre-prosthetic surgical corrections,

Sinus floor lifting procedures,

Bone thickening and elevation operations,

Diagnosis, treatment and long-term follow-up of dental and supporting tissue injuries,

Conservative and surgical treatments of jaw fractures,

Orthognathic surgical operations (Jaw relationship disorders),

Conservative and surgical treatments of jaw joint diseases,

What is Tooth Extraction?

it is primarily aimed to treat and keep the tooth in the mouth thanks to the development of science and technology and their contributions to dentistry. Tooth extraction is the process of removing the tooth from its socket called the socket in the bone.

What is an Embedded Tooth Extraction?

The reason why impacted wisdom teeth are a problem; evolutionarily, this tooth is no longer needed and our jaws are getting smaller and smaller. As our jaws get smaller, 20th-year-old teeth are forced to find a place for themselves and therefore cannot come out like other teeth. The 20th-year-old teeth, which cannot find a place for themselves, push the front tooth and press, which causes crowding. In addition, they can easily become inflamed because they are too far behind and the gingiva around them are not in a normal anatomical structure.

What are pre-prosthetic Surgical Corrections?

Preprosthetic surgery is to complete the lost alveolar bone contours and correct the soft tissue, making the supporting tissues ideal before prosthesis construction. After preprosthetic surgery, it is desired to create an ideal oral environment that is suitable for prosthesis construction.

What is Bone Powders & Sinus Augmentation Procedure?

Bone powders are biocompatible materials, also called bone grafts. Bone powders are used to complete the bone tissue that has been lost for various reasons. These powders both accelerate the healing in the area and help increase the bone volume. Bone powders can be of animal or human origin or synthetic.

Sinuses are anatomical spaces between the cheekbones and the roots of the molars in the upper jaw. Sinusitis, known among the people, is the inflammation of these cavities.

The lower border of the sinuses may droop due to osteoporosis and retraction of the molars in the upper jaw. The decrease in bone height prevents implant placement in this area.

In the sinus lift procedure, bone powders are placed at the base of the sinus to increase the height of the bone and this area is made ready for implant application.

When sinus lifting and bone powder addition procedures are applied, 6 months are added to the waiting period for the implant to fuse with the bone.

The first examinations, diagnosis and treatment planning of our patients who apply to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are performed by specialist physicians. When additional imaging is required for diagnosis, necessary radiographs are taken for our patients. After the treatment planning of our patient is completed, an appointment is made for the necessary treatment procedures.

The treatments of our patients who cannot adapt to dental treatments due to their physical and/or mental disability, who have fear of the dentist, who cannot cooperate, who have syndrome, are performed under intravenous sedation and general anesthesia in the day surgery room of our hospital. These treatments are performed by an anesthesiologist and oral, dental and maxillofacial surgeon in operating room conditions.

According to the needs of our patients whose treatment has been completed, control sessions are created at certain periods that the physician deems appropriate, and treatment follow-up is carried out.
